Perhaps they have better things to do than babysit adults. As an adult site I should imagine “the mods” expect and trust you all to behave like adults and thus don’t need the presence of “their jackboots”.

Perhaps they’re trying to encourage you, the users, to post and interact with each other more independently without them having to hold your hands.
If you become too reliant on the moderators for content then you won’t bother to create content yourself!
