Always keep several get well cards on the mantlepiece….
so if unexpected guests arrive, they will think you’ve been sick and unable to clean!
29 July, 2009 at 8:39 am #403019if you have a cordless phone and want to end a call and hints haven’t worked…quietly head to the front door, open it….reach round and ring the door bell….”Oops got to go…”
Now would I do that? :-
29 July, 2009 at 8:43 am #403020Always have a coat or hat by the front door. If you haven’t been able to see who is approaching and ringing the bell – put the coat on. If its someone you like you have just got in …if its someone you don’t want to spend time with….you are just on your way out!
Way too sneaky for me….

or…..set the kitchen pinger to ring in, say, one minute, and carry on talking till it goes off, then you have to urgently get something out of the oven.
(but won’t people then come around for some of your home cooking, in which case you’ll have to put your coat on?)
29 July, 2009 at 8:48 am #403022If people are about to arrive at very short notice, polish the piece of furniture that’ll be in their line of vision when they enter the room, and they won’t notice the dust on the rest.
In the winter spray a bit of furniture polish on the radiators to give the illusion of a freshly cleaned house (my friend gave me this tip, and I’d always thought she was a domestic goddess up until then!)
1 August, 2009 at 11:52 am #403023Taking a dog for a walk these days can be a bit embarrasing, since you end up having to carry a plastic bag full of poo home.
So why not train your dog to carry the plastic bag in its mouth? The dog can then saunter home carrying its poo with pride!

And make a few marks on the carpet with a hair brush so it looks like youve hoovered!
