In the wake of the recent child abuse scandals the government has set up a database at a cost of £224million which is designed to hold information about every child in the UK.
The contactpoint information includes:
Name of child
Address of child
Date of birth
Parents contact info
Drs info
School info
A unique identifying number for that childIt is currently being pilotted in the NW before being rolled out across the rest of the uk.
Currently 17 local authorities and 390000 people will have access to this information. The government deem in necessary to prevent a child slipping through the net however concerns have been raised as to the security of such a database…
What are your feelings on it?

19 May, 2009 at 12:03 pm #397114I am not saying i am opposed to it.. I was merely trying to provoke a debate :)

19 May, 2009 at 5:56 pm #397117Would have assumed that the kids in the recent abuse scandals were on some sort of database….it didnt do them a lot of good did it?
At the end of the day its all down to human intervention/interraction, and thats where the system is falling down, the people who are supposed to be checking up on children at risk arent doing the job properly and are too easily fooled by the abuser.19 May, 2009 at 6:33 pm #397118@melody wrote:
