Women on message boards will always be seen as virtuous, sensitive and vulnerable creatures.
Men, by comparison, are nasty and vindictive who are obsessive in their bullying and pursuit of women.

Bearing that in mind can I just ask why Jade Goody feels the need to be confined to a wheelchair so much? Has she had her legs amputated or is she just badly in need of our attention?
Yes, I read that she has cancer – and so does Patrick Swayze – but I can’t help wondering why – via the media – we are required to pour out our emotions quite so emphatically for Ms Goody.

I dare say that the sufferers react differently to cancer in varying degrees, both mentally and physically.

ffs this is a callous thread to start.

Why is it callous….is she a personal friend of yours?

Go look up the meaning of the word callous.

Aren’t you just using political correctness (the quality of conformity to social expectations)to say to people “Look at me….I care, but he doesn’t”?

I am struggling to see the connection between your “truisms” and then your comments on Jade other than an attempt to justify or excuse your own callousness, but you do seem determined to live up to your truism. Fortunately I have come across men on the boards and in chat who do not live up to your truism, unfortunately I have also come across women who fall into the latter part of your truism.

I agree with Reason, your comments re Jade are callous, I find them offensive and ignorant, and I can only assume that you are fortunate enough to not have someone close to you die of cancer. It affects different people in different ways, but towards the end it is not uncommon for the sufferer to become too weak to stand or to walk for long distances. The use of a wheelchair then becomes a useful tool for continuing to make the most of the time remaining, rather than sitting at home, hiding from the world, as if apologising for your very existence.

As for being in need of our attention, yes she is making as much money as she possibly can for the benefit of her sons, but I suspect the media eye would be on her regardless, making the most of every little nuance, so why shouldn’t she make some money out of it – they will, as it will continue to sell their newspapers.

No doubt you will now hold up my response as evidence of your truism – well sorry to disappoint but I am far from vulnerable, I simply have worked with cancer sufferers, had close friends and relatives die of cancer, and yes, pushed a friend around in a wheelchair when she became too weak to walk. I would not have denied her that last pleasure any more than I would deny it to Jade, I only thank god we didn’t bump into anyone like you on our little outings.

May you and those you hold dear to you never have to suffer this awful disease.

Do you mean Jade Goody….or did she become just “Jade” all of a sudden?

You’ve expressed an opinion and that’s fair enough, but why do you have to resort to personal insults to quantify your views? I feel sympathy towards Ms Goody of course I do, but that sympathy – with the wall to call coverage of her illness – is wearing slightly thin right now.

Please – by all means, express an opinion – but do it without the insults. There’s no need and If I can do it, I’m sure you can.
