Could we try this here???

Fiona and David Fulton, who have lived in the former British colony in West Africa for nine years, pleaded guilty and have a month in which to appeal against the sentence.

They have been convicted and sentenced to one year in prison with hard labour and a fine of 250,000 dalasi (£6,409 pounds) each, and will be deported to Britain after serving their sentences.

It seems that the Fultons were arrested this month and charged with sedition for writing letters to organisations and individuals abroad to “bring into hatred or contempt, to excite disaffection against the president of the republic and the government of the Gambia.”

Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai quoted from an email sent in September, entitled “Hell In The Gambia,” in which Gambia is described as “sinking fast into a morass of Islam.”

Gambia is constitutionally secular, but 90 percent of its population are Muslims.

Not particularly clever then eh? After all if you are a guest in another country, sending this sort of message is not exactly guaranteed to endear you to the authorities.

However, this begs the question – could we try this sort of thing here in the UK???

A swift bit of legislation from our wonderful and marvellous government (it says here) and at the stroke of a legislative pen, we could fine. imprison, and then deport all those irritating clerics that spend their entire time telling us off and constantly criticising our beloved leader, Gordon “Saviour of the World” Brown.
