Do you have a dangerous job and if so do you take things for granted or are a bit casual safety wise
A Network Rail safety video which is suitably realistic unlike the old ones, makes me think so does it’s job eh
It’s worth putting it on pause and letting it load if it keeps stopping when playing it.. heed the warning at the beginning

2 November, 2008 at 6:53 pm #386138Yeah it does but it doesnt always happen. Not trying to be dramatic but a loss of concentration could have killed me was blind luck really i didnt return to the bit of track we were working on the same route i left.

I’ve never worked on the Railways, although i know someone who do, it’s good money.. Even though it pays to be cautious, i suppose it’s easy to lose a bit of concentration.
2 November, 2008 at 7:46 pm #386140Once worked for Railtrack on a few of the stations and found the safety procedures quite strict. We thought it a bit of a laugh having to use heavy wooden ladders instead of lightweight aluminium ones, well we found it funny until they showed us film footage of what would happen to us if we touched the overhead power lines with metal ladders, not a pretty sight :-… ,they also told us to report anything that we considered a danger and they always made it safe more or less as quickly as humanly possible, but i can see how some peeps get over confident with certain jobs and so these shocking films are a good thing.
3 November, 2008 at 12:58 pm #386141I sat next to an old guy on the train once, it was a long journey and we got chatting. As we passed a work crew at the side of the line he went white and tensed up. He went on to tell me about his time as a train driver, the deaths, some from work crews, some suicides, and how much every death affected him until his nerves were shot to pieces and he had to give up the job he loved. It’s not just the person who gets hit, it’s the train driver, the witnesses, it ripples through so many lives…..
The sad fact is that when you do a job day in and day out you can get a bit blase, so films like this serve a purpose.
