Why are our kids dying?

When I was a younger man, I worked on refuge camps and moved supplies.  There was a regular run thru the Bekaa valley in Lebanon.  One day I notice a small child dead by the side of the road. The child couldn’t more than 5 years old and looked like a bag of rags.  It was too dangerous to stop and the child was dead.  Just more road kill being feed on by local wild life.  Passing that child for weeks I’d reason out the parents were probably dead some where close by. Death was common at the time.   To this day it haunt me and I’d wished we’d stopped.  Just pick up the remains and given that child a burial.  5 mins I didn’t have for this child due to our schedule.

Arthur Labinjo-Hughes & Star Hobson  cases are starting to haunt me too.  My view on parents with young children changed. Even in the street I take a close look at both now.  How the child’s dressed…if they seem fead & well care for.

It seems in every case of child abuse street drugs play a part. In both the  Arthur Labinjo-Hughes & Star Hobson cases there killers argued poor mental health due to misuse.

I blame our public services who are failing.

Customs officers & border agency aren’t preventing drugs from coming in.

Police aren’t shutting down dealers

Social services & schools aren’t spotting victims of abuse or acting on reports.

The argument is simple: there short staffed due to the pandemic.  Its not good enough.  I feel those paid to protect us from ourselves cant be azzed. Covid became a excuse for apathetic society were incompetence in public service is the new normal and  goes unpunished.  Those who fail us carry on with there careers with no repercussions.

There a wall in London where all those who died from covid have a heart with there name inside.  Maybe its time the names of those society let down during the pandemic need to be added. There victims of covid too.
