Pats a similar thing happened to me a few months back. It was because my pc was overheating. It shut itself down to try and prevent it. Have you taken the sides off lately and cleaned it? The fans can get really clogged with dust as I discovered to my cost. Try this download. It,s a diagnostic tool for your pc called AIDA32. Amongst other things it will tell you if your pc is overheating.

PATS ….. I think that Bat has got it about right. However there is a virus (can’t remember what it is called) that does roughly the same thing – i.e. shuts your computer down without warning and sometimes delays a re-start.

If the dust and crap removal exercise doesn’t work, then try running a full virus scan.
