Very happy with the result and the performance today :D Especially with the performances of Mendes and Bougherra, they certainly didn’t look fazed and Mendes in particular was outstanding.
I was surprised to see that Robson didn’t start for Celtic. Thought that was a big mistake as he can make a huge difference. The atmosphere was good too, Celtic fans waving their passports & Rangers fans singing ‘One Artur Boruc’ That’s the way it should be, a wind up or two without the malice.
31 August, 2008 at 4:46 pm #368469Gotta take your Medicine at times like this, but Rangers scored their 1st against the run of play, and if Celtic had went 2-1 ahead through Maloney things could have been different. Celtic werent dominated the way the scoreline suggests.
I wouldn’t go as far as to call it a freak result, but in no way has the balance of power changed after 1 game, and we’ll see that over the course of the season.
31 August, 2008 at 5:07 pm #368470Definetely agree BM, it’s a big boost for Rangers right now but they’ll need more than just one like it to win the league. You could argue that both Broadfoot (who seems terrified to go anywhere near McGeady. At least Davis showed him how it was done!) and Papac were at fault for Samaras’s goal as well, more Broadfoot though. He should have been braver and Papac couldn’t do much else. Hopefully Miller has done enough for the Rangers fans, the past few weeks he’s shown a lot more effort than some and today was just what he needed.
If Wilson and, as you said, Maloney had scored from their efforts then it would’ve been a different game. Can’t argue Cousin’s red card, you can only get away with that for so long. Interesting to see that Boyd missed out completely, looks like there’s something going on behind the scenes.
Selling Cuellar doesn’t seem like such a bad move now considering.
