so….26weeks pregnant, got absolutely no money, am applying for jobs but people are seeing my baby belly and deciding…not a bloody chance
applied for jobseekers allowance…took a week to get the interview…they’ve told me i can sign on but because sam works 20hours a week…i get nothing, not a penny!
he brings in not quite £500 a month!! rent alone is £475
they said when i filled out the application for jobseekers it applied for housing benefit at the same time.
fast forward to today…just over 28weeks pregnant, still applying for jobs with no luck…gone in to sign on(pointless but if i stick with it til 29weeks i can get my £500 maternity grant) only to be told that they’ve not applied for housing benefit and i have to wait on a letter from them telling me i’m not entitled to claim any money for jobseekers.
so…that’s going to take a couple of weeks…then another few weeks for application of housing benefit to go through…rent going to be in arrears (already had to borrow money from my brother to pay last months rent) and i still have not even a penny :(
meanwhile my sister…who is capable of working(she’s partially deaf but still able) and her bf(registered as learning impaired but still capable) sit on their ar*ses getting given £800 a month between them, housing and council tax paid and even free bus passes!!!
is it just me finding this totally unfair!?!
sorry….hormonal rant
1 August, 2008 at 10:17 pm #358862no no no,, you dont qualify for jobseekers,, but you ARE entitled to income support. are the benefits agency aware of the extent of your pregnancy ? failing that sam IS entitled to claim low income, tax credits. When baby is born get right in for tax credits, but meantime id apply for income support, your entitled to it now your 28 weeks, and see your midwife, as there are other things you can claim for with fast start claims. good luck.

1 August, 2008 at 11:00 pm #358867Dont worry, when you discover what you are entitled to, it will be back-dated to when you applied.
I know it seems rubbish, but hang on in there. x

Immigrants get it by knowing the system, infact they have much better advisors than us mere Brits have.
