Im 100% sure the courts made the right decision in refusing to uplift his ban, what sort of message would it have sent had they lifted it?
Silly man. What do you think?

I concur with the courts in this instance. It would seem that the ethos in the sporting arena is to win at all costs – pumped full of steroids if necessary. What’s the point in that? Oh yeah…big business and oodles of cash.
I couldn’t give a toad’s todger for the Olympic games, whether in Bejing, London or the Moon. It’s corrupt, predictable, and costs the tax payer a bleedin’ fortune for folk with muscles like Schwartzenegger ( and that’s just the girls relay team) to nonce around a track getting their jollies :twisted:21 July, 2008 at 7:41 am #356062Agree completely with the courts decision.
If athletes cant compete fairly, without the use of stimulants, it makes a mockery of the whole idea of competition. 8)21 July, 2008 at 8:12 am #356063@pete wrote:

Usually this is my view – once they’ve served their sentence, paid their dues, then they should be given a second chance. Two things changed my mind in this case:
firstly seeing Dwayne on a TV interview where he said he did it because he thought he could get away with it, he didn’t seem to be sorry for doing it, just sorry for getting caught, so he hasn’t truly learnt his lesson – so does he deserve a second chance?
secondly, and more importantly, an “expert” was saying that the drugs that were used, and many of those that are on the market, don’t just provide a temporary improvement in performance but a lifetime improvement, so athletes such as Dwayne will continue to have an unfair advantage long after their sentence has been served.
So yes, I think the courts were right and it sends out a very clear message to anyone else who might be tempted – cheat and your career is over.
21 July, 2008 at 8:16 am #356064I think anyone named Dwayne should be banned from everything.
Also, I think training at all should be outlawed. Under the original Corinthian ethos that spawned such things as the Olympic movement, it was certainly frowned at. There was no need to ban it formally, though, since the competitors themselves could be relied upon not to do anything so crass. Unfortunately, we do not live in such enlightened times.
21 July, 2008 at 8:47 am #356065As you might expect, I take the opposite view.
The entire Olympic thing is riddled with corruption and commercialism. It costs the ‘taxpayer’ an absolute fortune to stage, just so that an assortment of the otherwise unemployable can show off their physical skills in a so-called fair competition.
Fine, so let’s let them use as many drugs, chemicals and various performance enhancers as they can cram down their throats or stuff in their veins. After all what difference does it make in reality?
An enormous amount of money is spent in trying to keep the ”Games” drug free …. let’s save the money and let these so-called athletes all kill themselves with overdoses of mind and body damaging performance enhancement drugs.
At least we can then forget all about this hypocritical Olympic ideal and go back to doing something more useful or productive every four years.
It’s all the bloody Greek’s fault anyway …. just ‘cos we’ve got their effing marbles.

I agree. If you can’t beat em, join em.
