My goal as a society where we all are paid money each month regardless of whether we work or not has had at least a little more publicity and testing. This is crucial to the well-being of our existence, we all know that in 25+ years there will not be enough jobs for us.

    The latest article:

if companys paid better this issue wud not be here, and like i have said a lot of times, robots will replace most types of jobs, and like i said a lot of times, there will be prob riot/s and even civil war/s in the uk, i blv like i say the poor vs the rich and the rich will win, money wont even be a thing i blv in the future, i like this video but it should not of even been made, it was only made as c.e.o,s of companys and governments, are greedy people.  –

i dont think u.b.i wud be law in the uk government, as it just seems like a type of benefit and workers will pay for it, also if it is say 10k per year, that is not even enough for one single person to live in a rented flat, u need atleast 12k to 15k, i bet most if not all c.e.o’s even chairty c.e.o’s make million or billion in profit they all about cash making they are all capitalists, also people are lazy and there are people who dont try and fix there mental prob/s, so they stay the same, but even if people did fix there mental prob/s, if they are (counter culturists) then they wont do a job working for someone else, so they will just spend there cash again and again on essential but also non essential things, while always getting u.b.i, but yes others people employed or not employed, will do something fantastic with the u.b.i, then they wont need it, but i think that is rare it is like trying to be a boss of ones own company, what makes a lot of cash per year, it sadly only works with a small group of people, all life is about luck. :mail:

UBI is usually proposed as a replacement for social programs, in the UK this would require the scraping of all benifits, and total privatisation of the NHS. But even this would not come close to funding UBI.

Where do you think the rest of the money will come from?

When you factor in the savings from everything, child benefit, housing, sickness benefits, not to mention all the fraud that goes on with these, then deduct all the offices, staff rent, it will be a considerable saving… I feel.

There is an interesting trial in Finland where unemployment is stubbornly around 8%.  2,000 unemployed were randomly chosen and are being paid a set amount every month whether they find work, or not. The conclusions will give some clues if a universal basic income is economically viable. Also as JN stated, a robotics revolution is coming and there will not be enough paid full time work when it does. Logically it should push up production and GDP, I can’t see any alternative to a UBI.

Your feelings do not reflect reality. I will assume you support UBI as defined in the BBC article linked previously, £10,000 a year for everyone under 55. From the demographic information I could find in a quick search there are about 49,000,000 people in the UK under 55. The article does not claim that immigrants, or other non-citizens are excluded. This is a total cost of £490,000,000,000 (£490 billion, 0.49 trillion). The Guardian reported that in 2013 (This should be done using newer figures) total welfare spending was £159 billion, £74 billion of which was for pensions, which I assume would still be paid out as the UBI is capped at 55 years old. Making the effective cost of the current welfare £85 billion. NHS funding is expected to be £124 billion in 2018.

This makes the total savings £209 billion, £281 billion less than my rough estimation of the cost of UBI.

This does not account for money raised by privatising the NHS because that is only a short-term contribution, decisions like this should always be considered in the long term.

UBI is not economically viable as I have explored above. So far I haved ignored the societal consequences of a guarenteed income, which I believe would be disasterous.

Also as JN stated, a robotics revolution is coming and there will not be enough paid full time work when it does.

There is no evidence to support this. If such a ‘revolution’ does happen then it is a possibiltiy, but the same claims were also made about the car, and the personal computer. These predictions were laughably wrong, these technologies have created far more jobs than were lost.
