The Good Old Days !! Hornsey-Rise-London-1975 11140294_1584927401789918_5014177209737784917_n 4 I do love the old red brick tenement buildings. We find them all over the country. These were very close to The Favourite in Hornsey Rise, and they were demolished in 1981. I suppose I’m glad I don’t live here or somewhere like this anymore, but you can’t beat the sense of community spirit in places like this. Hundreds of kids running wild, hand me downs, bikes and go karts put together from salvaged scraps and old pram wheels, everybody in and out each other flats, everyone looking out for each other, no need to lock your doors or windows, playing football in the courtyards til long after dark, poor but happy :)

Now, Alfie, a question. I lived just by The Favourite, moving there in 1979, and I don’t remember this estate.

I remember estates where Dresden Road met Hazelville road, and there was a road parallel to Hazelville, and there was a modern block of estates – Shelbourne House, I remember. These names are all from memory.

But I cannot remember the estate pictured above. you say it was demolished in 1981, and I should remember it as the arch is very distinctive.

Also, I used to go the Rainbow. I think I went just before it closed to watch Graham Parker, if you’ve heard of him. I also think I saw Dr Feelgood there, a favourite band of mine, first seen in Bristol back in 75-76.
