Yes Sianny, I live my life virtually, you lot are the real people, I am the 24/7 net freak. Please don’t tell anyone.

I’m a Second Life ‘resident’ – have been for ages. It’s what you make of it. It’s not a game as such and that confuses a lot of beginners. It’s a virtual world where you can be what you like, do what you like and make what you like, within the limitations of the system. For me it’s the ability to create stuff in 3D and texture it that’s the main fascination.
I’m an illustrator and so I’m naturally drawn to this sort of thing. Some ‘games’ and 3D programmes might have slightly better graphics, while others might be more stable but Second Life is the most versatile I’ve come across. Nearly all the content of the Second Life environment is created by residents, as opposed to being put there by the designers of the ‘game’.

Some people who’ve never really explored Second Life say it’s full of saddos and creeps but in my experience no more so than any other interactive part of the net – including, dare I say, JC!

Many of the Second Life screenshots you see in the media are old ones from when the graphics were less realistic. Avatars are ‘infinitely customisable’. You can also have sevaral accounts with different names.

Anyone who hasn’t tried Second Life should give it a go. It only works really well on a powerful modern computer. Maybe someone could even start a Just Chat group in ‘SL’.

And….no, I’m not called ‘Bassingbourne’ or ‘Bass’ or anything similar in Second Life! – to save anyone the bother of looking.

Your just plain old Eduardo over there arent you Bass  My son had a go a while back but went back to Habbo and Runescape, those are his addictions.

I think I have enough places to visit at the moment, I find it hard enough to fit it all in as it is, but I do intend to have a look one day when I have the time, I do like all the graphics.

One criticism of Second Life is that for newcomers it isn’t particularly user-friendly and can be confusing. If you take a bit of time and invest a bit of mental effort in learning the ropes, it becomes rewarding and addictive. The initial impression might be that it consisits of a small space inhabited by a limited selection of standardised avatars, but that is far from being the case.

    Who is Eduardo?
