    Motorbikes and leathers

I am sick to my back teeth of this one.

I have said over and over again in main room that I do not wear leathers when riding on  a Harley Davidson motorbike  in a 30/50 km per hr zone; no one does in a 40°c + clime.

It can  actually be dangerous wearing leathers at such a low speed, due to your body overheating beneath the leathers, consequently affecting your concentration on the road.

As for the accidents that happen to bikers, most are due to them driving at high speed,  as in they’re doing the wrong speed for the road they’re using…hence not enough space/time to stop the bike in order to avoid the collision.

Leathers can protect you, but they’re not going to save your life if youre going too fast and unable to stop the bike in the right time/space; that’s down to you, using your common sense..

Hope you all get it this time.

Always wear full boots all times. Friend lost a foot in a spill. Always use leathers unless seafront ride!

I’m sorry to hear about your friend.

Boots can help, but they’re not going to save a foot, they are made of leather, not steel,  depends how you fall and how much weight falls onto your foot, etc.

Some do however contain steel caps, but they would only be protecting your toes, not the whole foot and ankle, and anyway, there are some rather contradicting opinions on steel caps,  some say that they are actually  dangerous, as that they can act like a guillotine incase of a collision/spill/accident.

As I  said above, you have to be very careful at all times on a bike and use common sense.

Most bikers (on the roads) behave  as if they’re in a circuit.

Roads are not circuits, there are all sorts of  obstacles on the roads, being they  people, cars, animals, dodgy asphalt, oil,  etc and they  have to bear that in mind … and ride accordingly .

We have speed limits on roads  for a reason.

    Bikes are not for everyone.

Would it be very very wrong of me to simply type ‘blahhhhhhhh’?

Yes, because you’re not giving an opinion, merely emitting a sound.

cant answer for my brother whom owns a harley ‘fatboy’  . he wears  crash helmet . decent riding boots and  leather jacket. jeans  are some sort of  woven material  also used  in racing cars . carbon fibre based I think?   as  an ex  police motorcyclist  an traffic officer he has seen  many  incidents  cars. bikes and pedestrians.  not  aware w get 40 C here in UK but have seen him in all his gear  at 29 C .and yes he was hot and sweaty .. not a good look.   I  have commented  about  motor cyclists  and he  says two sides  to a coin as card drivers  do not look for them etc however he also admitted  a lot of bikers  do  exceed limits and drive as though road rules do not apply.   one stretch of road along old A13 in essex  had numerous bikers  getting hurt until  highways  had dozen or so  keep left bollards  installed and  herring bones .no overtaking double lines etc  and accident rate dropped to ‘zilch’    as an ex biker myself i am aware drivers  do not look for  bikers  but  bikers them selves are biggest influence in  reducing accident to selves .

Absolutely. I still have the gravel rash scars down my right side, outside of elbow, knee etc  where I slid 40 metres as a young man and of course all sensible ‘ bikers’, whatever the climate, wear the appropriate safety gear and especially important with heavier, more powerful machines.
