What a waste of a young life. When will these stupid youngsters ever learn? He has paid for a moments drunken stupidity in the most dreadful way.
link14 May, 2008 at 9:36 am #335614tragic waste indeed, not counting the pain he is going to cause his family and time they will have to give up to care for him, and the cost to the NHS it doesnt stop at a waste of his own life sadly.
Maybe the places where tombstoning is rife they should put signs with facts on like his and the effect it is going to have on the family in some brief sit up and take notice way, dunno how your gonna get it across else, even if the person thinking about jumping takes no notice of them maybe those with them might read it and persuade them otherwise, dunno the answer really.
Mind you you would think the name itself would make them think twice, maybe the sign could be titled TOMB STONING and a picture of a tombstone with a RIP followed with “do you want your name inserted in this space ” if not think again !! or/and a wheelchair on it with a picture of a person with no face again with “do you want this to be your face in this space”kinda thing.Cue pete !!!!

14 May, 2008 at 10:11 am #335615I actually thought some of the comments from the Daily Mail readers were a bit harsh. YES he was stupid and reckless. No doubt about that, but you know what it,s like when your his age. You think your invincible like superman and nothing can go wrong. You think old age is light years away, you don,t think about the consequences of smoking in years to come, because that won,t happend to you will it? You don,t think about the effects of binge drinking, because your out to have some fun and the last thing you want is a bunch of know it all,s telling you otherwise. In other word,s at that age you just don,t THINK. All most kids his age care about is having fun and a “buzz”. They live for the moment. Sadly this young mans life has been flushed right down the toilet because of a moments drunken stupidity. He probably wishes with all his might he could turn back time, but he can,t. He,s got to live with the consequences of his drunken actions, and so, as you said, have his parents. I feel so sorry for the kid. Can all of us honestly say we,ve never done something as or nearly as stupid when we were that age? Well he,s paid the ultimate price now hasn,t he. Poor kid.
14 May, 2008 at 10:17 am #335616Still, at least it was only a chav. You’ve got to look at the bright side. Also, paralysed from the neck down, he shouldn’t be reproducing. A welcome dose of chlorine in the gene pool.
14 May, 2008 at 10:45 am #335617thats what im trying to say Bat, you hear abt these things on the news you might see the odd warning but at that age u dont think you see the advert or news bulletin then forget all about it, which is why i think they need some harder hitting advert prevention a bit like they did when aids first came out, i know its different but the effect of the way they hit it home for a while at least had an effect.

I think your right Poli. Shock tactics seems to be the only thing that works these days. I showed my kids a picture of a diseased black lung, caused by smoking and said ” there you are, do you want your lungs to look like that?” they were horrified and thought it was disgusting. Now they don,t want to smoke. Show the kids adverts of what will happen to you if drink and drive, or take drugs. If it scares them into not doing it I,m all for it.
14 May, 2008 at 5:03 pm #335619Teenagers think they are unbreakable, no amount of talking will convince them in my opinion. It’s that age where they think nothing bad will ever happen to them right before they hit adulthood and crossing the road gets scary!
14 May, 2008 at 6:41 pm #335620Thing is cherry this guy wasnt a teenager he was 25, so maybe some really hard hitting shock tactics would make them stop and think worth a try i would think and im still waiting for pete to design said sign lol

cant find any suitably shocking images it probably wouldnt stop them anyway maybe the sight of a few people crippled by this or a drowned body or two might do the trick
