I can see the point of the people who are defending the independence of the judiciary against the organised backlash led by Brexit papers like the Mail (once an avid supporter of Hitler, like some in f3).

The judges are called enemies of the people, they are attacked for including a judge who is “openly gay” (by the Mail), Gina Miller, who brought the case against the Crown’s usurpation of power, has received an unprecendented number of death threats using the same language we have seen on these boards. This is the environment which leads odd nutters and psychopaths to actually kill people like Jo Cox.

I can certainly see the type of bullying abuse of the truth we see in the USA with Trump.

But destroying the Constitution by open bullying, attempting to frighten judges and death threats against opponents – Zimbabwe does spring to mind, but so does the example of the man once revered by the Mail.

Would you care to elaborate on this comment or was it another one of you snidey sideswipes scep ?

The Daily Mail like The Sun is NOT a newspaper it’s a comic. ;-)

The mail and the sun are both rags. We are lucky in Liverpool as most shops don’t stock the sun! if anyone would be seen carrying the sun rag- they would deffo be on some sort of death wish :negative:

Liverpool has good reason to be a proud city :good:

The entire British media, is a propaganda arm of whatever side of the political fence they sit on, left and right. Arguably the Independent (online now) is truly “Independent” and centre political wise (my site of choice) compared  to the likes of the so called “moderate” Guardian and BBC in terms of reporting. The Guardian is a liberal rag to the right and the BBC is the mouthpiece of whatever government is in power.

The Mail On Sunday has some decent articles, well researched and well written and hidden amongst the fluff and is widely quoted in academic circles for that exact reason. No one should just dismiss an alternative point of view because it does not represent their own particular ideology, that would just be utter ignorance wouldn’t it and we all know what happens when the ignorant get a platform to air their views.

    Read the thread, arc.

As Reason noted, it was Dominic Grieve, the Tory ex-Attorney General, who drew the parallel.

I am not a Tory, but I see the point here.

Three High Court Justices unanimously dedided that the Crown-in-Parliament should control Brexit, not the Crown (through its agent, the Governemnt) in isolation from Parliament.

The Mail, the Sun, the Express etc launched a vitriolic attack on the judges, while leading UKIP figures called for action to be mobilised against the ruling. The Bar Council decided it was an unprecedented attack on the independence of the judiciary, and the rule of law. The called on th Lord Chancellor, Liz truss, to denounce this attack.

She hasn’t done so, apart from a late and lame defence of the British judiciary as the pride of the world. The Bar Council is not happy about her.

There is a blatant attempt to bully the Supreme Court to back the government appeal. That’s why Truss refuses to denounce these people.

We’ll have to see if it works. The goernemnt ought to make its case more clear if they want to win, whihc is still possible without bullying.
